Incoterms questions buyers should resolve before price comparison

An Incoterm does not define every cost, document, risk and operational responsibility.

Named place matters

FOB, FCA or DAP without the exact named place remains ambiguous.

Loading and local charges

Clarify who pays terminal, loading, documentation and exceptional costs.

Insurance and inspection

Define whether these are seller obligations, buyer arrangements or separate services.

Decision checklist

  • Separate each claim, its evidence and the approval authority.
  • Compare price with scope, currency, Incoterm, timing and risk cost.
  • Close open issues before payment or irreversible commitment.

Stop signals

Pressure for an immediate decision, beneficiary-account changes, unreferenced documents, identity inconsistencies and refusal to answer clearly require a pause and further review.
